Safe to Combine

Can You Take Quercetin and Vitamin C Together?

Quercetin and Vitamin C are a synergistic antioxidant pairing with both biochemical and clinical evidence supporting their combined use. Vitamin C regenerates oxidized quercetin back to its active (reduced) form — extending quercetin's antioxidant lifespan and amplifying its biological activity. Without adequate Vitamin C, quercetin gets oxidized and inactivated more rapidly; with Vitamin C present, quercetin cycles between its active and oxidized forms, producing sustained antioxidant protection.

Both compounds are also potent anti-inflammatory agents, with complementary mechanisms. Vitamin C reduces mast cell histamine release and supports immune cell function. Quercetin stabilizes mast cell membranes and inhibits NF-κB-driven inflammatory signaling. Together they provide more comprehensive allergy and inflammation control than either compound alone — which is why many natural allergy and immune support formulas combine both.

The Vitamin C in this combination also improves quercetin's bioavailability. Quercetin is notoriously poorly absorbed from food, and some research suggests that Vitamin C enhances its intestinal uptake. For allergy season, immune resilience, or general antioxidant support, quercetin plus Vitamin C is an evidence-informed and well-tolerated daily protocol.

How They Interact

Vitamin C (ascorbate) acts as a reducing agent that donates electrons to oxidized quercetin (semiquinone radical and quinone forms), regenerating active quercetin and extending its redox cycling activity. Both independently downregulate NF-κB and reduce mast cell degranulation through complementary pathways.

Timing Advice

Take together with a meal. Quercetin phytosome or EMIQ form with 250–500 mg Vitamin C is the most effective combination. Both are well-tolerated at mealtimes.

Our Recommendation

An excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pairing. Use quercetin 500 mg (phytosome form preferred) with 500 mg Vitamin C daily. Particularly valuable for allergy management, reducing chronic inflammation, and general antioxidant defense. Add zinc (15–25 mg) to complete the immune trifecta.
